Music Is the Food of Life (ft. After London and Dunebug)

After a month-long season hiatus, A Few Of Our Favourite Things is back! And we hope we are returning bigger (literally, this episode is longer than the others) and better (there are TUNES).

For this episode we decided to explore our favourites in the huge world that is music.

We review the incredible Pixar film Coco, - a music-filled, music-themed animation - bring you some musical fun and facts, and interview gritty, post-punk band, After London.

After London are a hot ticket on the London gig scene, and have been compared to Dream Wife and Wolf Alice. We were joined by three of the five band members - Frank, Byron and Alex - who really helped us understand what it means to be in a band, and how it becomes a way of life. We also talk about what being a band in lockdown has been like, what the band members think is going to happen to live music in the Covid era, and share favourite musical influences.

We were also thrilled to include a beautiful track from indie singer-songwriter, Dunebug, who was kind enough to let us share her track Summer in Love on the podcast, to bring some sunshine into all our headphones.

Coco is available to stream on Disney Plus.

After London’s new single, Operator, will be released on July 10 and is available to pre-save now on Spotify: https://ditto.fm/operator

Musings on Love and Sexuality from page to screen and beyond (ft. EJ Muffitt)

Musings on Love and Sexuality from page to screen and beyond (ft. EJ Muffitt)

This is an episode filled with so many thoughts, emotions, and a constant return to the idea of the female gaze and how we define our own sexuality. And, of course, love in all its forms. (We literally go back as far as the Ancient Greeks).

Our guest this week was the fabulous voracious reader, EJ Muffitt (Insta: https://www.instagram.com/elliemuffitt/), who selected two of her favourite books on this episode's theme - Modern Love, essays on love in all its forms based on a weekly column published in The New York Times, and Lisa Taddeo's Sunday Times Bestselling book, Three Women - to explore with us.

Please excuse the sound quality on this section of the podcast - we had a connection issue!

We review (and generally rave over) the incredible Portrait of a Lady on Fire, this year's award-winning erotic film from Celine Sciamma, along with  finding the latest news and fun facts on the theme, as always.

Due to the topics being discussed, which include abortion and abuse, we would like to include a trigger warning.

All credit for the music goes to Roshan Gunga. The (genius) cover art for this week's episode was created by artist Natalie (Insta: https://www.instagram.com/tootins/). See if you can spot the theme-centred aspect of the picture...

Thanks for listening! As always, please send any feedback or suggestion for Favourite Film of the Week to stream to beanomeproductions@gmail.com

We are thrilled to have incredible chefs and all-round great people Melek Erdal (Instagram: mels_place_east) and Melissa Hemsley (Instagram: Melissa.Hemsley) on for this food-filled episode!

Along with their brilliant laughter, banana bread / pastry, chilli oil and frittata recipes, they shared a few fantastic delivery service recommendations for listeners to tap into in the coming weeks.  We've linked to them all below, along with a few of our own suggestions, so do try them out...

    Nature is Everywhere (Even Indoors)

Thank you for listening to our first episode - we hope you enjoyed it and would genuinely appreciate any feedback (as well as suggestions for Favourite Film of the Week to stream...) at beanomeproductions@gmail.com

All credit for the music goes to Roshan Gunga. The cover art for this week's episode was created by our Expert of the Week, Lisa Ott. It is of Lisa's favourite plant... the Calithea (and you can see more of her amazing drawings over on our Instagram page).

We thought it would be helpful to summarise a couple of the top tips from Lisa Ott's priceless plant advice here:

    * Always err on the side of under-watering rather than over-watering your plants. They are more likely to survive!

    * You can get a succulent collection super-cheaply by just picking up their dropped leaves and propagating them

    * Put succulents close to the window so they get a lot of light, but not right up against it

    * Top beginner plants are: Devil's Ivy and spider plants - they are both almost impossible to kill, show you when they are sad, and visibly revive when given water
